An introduction to social policy. Social policy refers to the study of social welfare and how it relates to politics and the society. The United Kingdom is a unitary state where the central government controls all the activities of government.Social Policy refers to the development of welfare, social administration and policies of the government used for social protection. Social policy is related to the governmental approach of development of social services towards formation of a welfare state (Alcock, 2003).A-Level Sociology revision materials covering the family and social structure. Social work interventions range from psychosocial processes targeted at the individual, to involvement in social policy, planning and development. These include counselling, social case work, social group work, social pedagogy and treatment and family therapy, as well as making efforts to help people obtain services and community resources.The topic of children and social policy has been explored in many different ways. Historically, children have tended to be hidden within the family and rarely seen as individuals in their own right. Since the late 20th century a change has occurred in the ways in which children have been understood and conceptualized within policy.
Social policy is referred to as “social policy” in Continental Europe, but it is referred to as “social welfare policy” in the North American literature. Some authors argue that these two concepts have the same meaning but some others argue that social policy is a frame concept which encompasses various policies, including social welfare policy ( 1 ).
